What would I have to do to become a nurse practitioner?

I am already going to school to become an RN, I was thinking about working a year as an LPN, while going to school for an RN. If I wanted to become a nurse practitioner, how would the order be and how long extra of school would I need? I am going to get my BSN, but what would come next? Thanks for all of the help!
