What handgun should I buy?

I want a gun to use at the range and probably use with my ccw at times. I would prefer a gun made in the USA. Looking to spend up to $700. Not sure if I should go with a 9mm or .40 cal. Hoping to get model numbers to look into. I qualified for my State CCW at work with a .40 cal glock but like I say I would prefer something made in the U.S. What are some good guns to look into?
